The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) is further expanding the number of reviews into existing anti-dumping duties on steel products from China that are set to expire during the first half of 2022. A new review into Chinese heavy plate has just been announced.
The TRA was formed during the UK’s transition when exiting the EU. Its role is to investigate the need for existing AD measures imposed while the UK was part of the EU, as well as potential new trade remedies required.
It has just started a probe into AD duties on heavy plate from China, to determine whether these are still needed to offset dumping of these imports in the UK. The period of investigation is 2021.
Another review is expected to be launched this spring into Chinese hot rolled coil anti-dumping duties, Kallanish notes.
Last year, the TRA initiated a number of reviews on existing measures, including for Chinese rebar, cold rolled coil and wire rod. These remain in progress, with a final decision on extending duties to published in May for wire rod and during the summer for rebar.
